Deceased estate clearance Melbourne
A deceased estate clearance managed with care, from first call to clean home
Deceased estate clearance, also called deceased estate rubbish removal or a clean-up, is the process of clearing a loved one’s home so it can be prepared for sale, transfer or handover after they have passed. It’s Done is a Prahran-based, family-run rubbish removal crew that handles deceased estate clearances and removals across Melbourne’s inner south and east, working carefully and discreetly alongside executors, family members and real estate agents.
We understand that clearing a family member’s home is not like an ordinary rubbish job. Before anything leaves the property we set aside personal papers, photographs, jewellery and anything else that looks as though the family should see it first. Usable furniture and household goods are offered to charity partners rather than sent straight to landfill, and the rest is disposed of responsibly.
Pricing is based on the volume we remove, not the hour, so you receive an upfront, fixed quote before we start and pay exactly that figure at the end. There are no hidden fees, no pressure to book on the spot, and we are happy to work around probate timelines, settlement dates or whatever the family needs.

What we take
A deceased estate clearance typically covers the whole home. Common items we remove:
How a deceased estate cleanout works
Three straightforward steps, at your pace and on your timeline.
-
Call (03) 9820 1927 or send the online form with a brief description of the property. Rob will ask a few gentle questions about the home and give you a no-obligation, upfront quote, usually within a couple of hours. There is no pressure and no obligation to proceed. If probate or the estate is not yet settled, we are happy to hold a provisional date.
-
On the day, our crew arrives at a time that suits you and begins working through the home room by room. Before anything leaves the property we set aside documents, photographs, jewellery, financial records and anything else that looks as though a family member or solicitor should review it. You do not need to be on site for the whole job, though you are welcome to be.
-
Once the property is clear we sweep through so it is left clean and ready for the next step, whether that is a real estate inspection, a handover to the beneficiaries or a settlement. Reusable furniture and household goods are donated to charity partners. The price you were quoted is the price you pay.

Sensitive, thorough and coordinated around your timeline
A deceased estate clearance is different from a standard rubbish removal job in one important way: the people involved are often grieving, under time pressure from probate or an upcoming sale, and managing a dozen other responsibilities at once. Our role is to take the physical side of it completely off your plate so you can focus on what matters.
We regularly work alongside executors, solicitors and real estate agents, and we are used to coordinating access, adjusting timing around probate proceedings and holding provisional bookings until a settlement or grant of probate is confirmed. A deceased estate clearance with It’s Done typically covers:
- Furniture, whitegoods and appliances: every room cleared, with reusable items offered to charity before disposal
- Personal effects, clothing, books and kitchenware: handled carefully, with anything of potential value set aside for family review
- Documents, photographs and keepsakes: never discarded, always placed together and handed back to the executor or a nominated family member
- Garage, shed and garden: tools, equipment, timber and accumulated clutter removed as part of the same visit
When the job is complete, the home is left swept and tidy, ready for a real estate agent to assess, a cleaner to follow up or a beneficiary to walk through. We treat every property as if it belongs to someone we know, because in a sense it does.

Common questions
You deal directly with Rob and his team from first contact to job completion. No call centres, no middlemen. Send a few photos or call (03) 9820 1927 for a fixed, upfront quote before we start. There is no obligation to proceed.
Yes to both. We are happy to hold a provisional booking until probate is granted or a settlement date is confirmed, and we adjust our schedule as things change. If the situation is urgent, call Rob directly on (03) 9820 1927 and we will do our best to accommodate the earliest available booking. We work Mon–Fri 8am–5pm and weekends by appointment.
We clear every room of the property in a single visit wherever possible: furniture, whitegoods, appliances, clothing, kitchenware, books, garage contents, garden tools and general accumulated items. Before anything leaves the property we set aside documents, photographs, jewellery and anything else that looks as though the family or executor should review it.
We cannot accept asbestos, hazardous chemicals or tyres. For almost everything else found in a residential property, just ask and we will let you know when you call. If an item falls outside what we can handle, we will point you toward the right option.
We are based in Prahran and cover Melbourne’s inner south and east, including South Yarra, Toorak, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Richmond, Malvern and surrounding suburbs. Call or check our service areas page for the full list.
You do not need to be on site for the whole job, though you are welcome to be. Before any removal begins, our team goes through the property and sets aside documents, photographs, financial records, jewellery and any other items that look as though an executor or family member should see them. These are kept together and handed back to a nominated contact before we leave. We do not make decisions about what is or is not valuable; if there is any doubt, we set it aside.
We divert over 35,000 kilograms from landfill each year. Usable furniture and household goods are donated to charity partners. Metals, timber and e-waste are separated and recycled. The remainder is disposed of responsibly through licensed facilities. Where possible, we will let you know ahead of time which items we plan to donate so the family can confirm.
Yes. It’s Done carries public liability insurance on every job, with the certificate available on request. We have been operating since 2008 and have handled many estate clearances across Melbourne’s inner suburbs. Our crew understands that this is not an ordinary job and conducts themselves accordingly: quietly, carefully and without hurry. We treat the home and everything in it with the same respect we would want shown to our own family.
Deceased estate rubbish removal is priced on the volume we take away, not by the hour, so the cost depends on how much is in the home and how easy it is to reach. Rob gives you a fixed, upfront quote before we start, after a quick chat or a few photos, and that is the price you pay. There are no hidden fees and no charge for the quote.
They are all names for the same job: clearing and removing the contents of a loved one’s home after they have passed. Some people call it a deceased estate clean-up or clean-out, others a clearance or estate removals. Whatever you call it, It’s Done handles the whole home, sets aside anything the family should see first, donates what can be reused and disposes of the rest responsibly.
